Working in the National Prosecution Authority
Most employees of the Prosecution Authority are prosecutors. In addition to them, we employ prosecutor’s secretaries, as well as professionals in human resources and financial administration, training, ICT services, and communications.
Developing Competence

The competence of the The National Prosecution Authority’s staff is developed with consideration of the changing operating environment, in cooperation with other authorities involved in the criminal process.
The Prosecution Authority’s own training system, induction, on-the-job learning, network collaboration and international partnerships provide a comprehensive foundation for continuous learning throughout an employee’s career.
The competence of professionals within the Prosecution Authority is based on the effective and high-quality enforcement of criminal liability, ensuring that the legal protection of all parties concerned is safeguarded.
Prosecutors
The competence development pathway supports prosecutors in developing their expertise throughout their careers.
A prosecutor’s career typically begins in the role of an Assistant Prosecutor. To support this, we offer a comprehensive induction and training programme. Through independently completed online studies, you will familiarise yourself with key fundamentals and issues relevant to the role of a prosecutor. Your on-the-job learning is supported by a tutor, who introduces you to the working and operational environment, the systems in use, and ensures the quality of your decisions. You will also observe the work of more experienced prosecutors.
Following the Assistant Prosecutor phase, the focus shifts to strengthening core competence, supported by a structured basic training programme. This training deepens expertise in pre-trial investigation, prosecutorial decision-making, court proceedings and general principles of criminal law. The training is conducted through independent online study combined with in-person sessions that further deepen the topics.
As a prosecutor’s career progresses, we support both generalist and specialist prosecutors through training at different levels. We offer training, for example, on various types of offences and procedural matters. Training opportunities are complemented by domestic and international courses provided by partner organisations.
In addition to formal training, prosecutors develop their competence through on-the-job learning, where appropriate allocation of duties plays a key role. To support this, we offer coaching, mentoring and professional supervision.
Prosecutors working in managerial roles are provided with both induction and up-to-date training.
Secretarial Staff
At the beginning of a secretary’s career, we provide an induction and training programme. Through independently completed online learning, you will familiarise yourself with the key fundamentals and issues relevant to secretarial work. In practical work, you will be supported by a designated mentor. Thereafter, your competence is maintained through various up-to-date training opportunities.
You may specialise, for example, as a digital coach, team leader or training secretary, in which case your competence is developed in line with your role and its requirements.
Other Staff
We provide comprehensive role-specific induction for experts working in human resources, information management, financial administration, communications and training. In addition to on-the-job learning, your competence is developed through training organised by the Prosecution Service and other organisations.
